Happy Easter From Ruple Properties!

Ruple Properties would like to wish you and your family a very Happy Easter! We hope the sun shines warmly on your worship services, family gatherings, egg-hunts, or however you celebrate.

We all know that Easter activities center mostly around children, but where is all the fun for the adults? Did you know it’s always open season for rabbit and hare in Texas?

Texas is home to only four types of wild rabbits, the most common being the Eastern Cottontail. Cottontails can be a big nuisance to farmers and gardeners, and the population appears to be increasing.

This is one Easter hunt you may not want to tell your kids about!

IT’S ALWAYS A GOOD TIME

Unlike most animals, there is no closed season to rabbit hunt! However, if you plan on making some stew out of your catch, wait until right after a freeze in order to to prevent any parasites or worms.

There is also no legal limit to how many you can hunt, as there are so many rabbits, there is no way you could endanger the population.

As far as a license goes, there isn’t a specific one for rabbits, so a regular hunting license will suffice. You can get more information about obtaining a license here.

WHERE’S RABBIT?

Rabbits are found in habitats ranging from open pastures to forests. As long as there is some kind of thick vegetation, they will be around. Rabbits tend to hide under bushes, so keep an eye out. Look for signs of droppings, trails and dens.

Some people like to hunt rabbit at night and use a spotlight to catch them. The best time to go is around twilight, when they leave their burrows to look for food.

If you are looking to hunt on private land that you don’t own, make sure to get permission from the owner in writing. If you want to hunt on public land, check with your local wildlife officials for any hunting restrictions, as it varies from county to county.
